More information will be posted as we approach the event. Please email any questions you have to YakimaRides@yahoo.com You can also contact us other ways. Registration and Routes Is there a cutoff number for the Wine Country trek? -- YES. The event is limited to 200 riders. This will ensure that we can provide the amount of individualized support and gourmet meals which have come to make this ride a seasoned success. How far in advance do you recommend we register? -- We expect the ride to sell out quickly. Register as soon as possible. At what time do we start riding on Saturday? -- We will start check-in at the East Valley Intermediate School on Saturday at 7:30 am, and the route opens at 8:30 am. This facility will allow us showers upon return. Note::: Wine Country is also notorious for Goat Heads, also known as puncture vine (not a good thing for bicycle tires). Please pack a couple of spare tubes and if you have gator skin, armadillo, or some other puncture resistant tire, all the better. Accomodations What are the outdoor & indoor camping accommodations like in Are there any hotels to stay at in Prosser? --Everyone interested in hotels or bed and breakfasts in Prosser this is a good reference: http://www.prosserchamber.org/prosser_accommodations.htm Also note that we will coordinate luggage to the local hotels and transportation to dinner with people that stay in locations other than the school, just ask one of us at the finish point check in desk. The Barn has very good rates, but reservations are booked almost a year in advance. Where should we stay in Yakima? www.oxfordsuitesyakima.com Can you recommend a campground? -- Yakima KOA and Yakima Sportsman Park are very close to our starting point and many riders stay there. Luggage We transport bags, provide all break stops and mechanical support in route. We also coordinate with the wineries and our break stop hosts to carry any purchases you make along the way. Just let them know you are with the Wine Country Trek. Wineries Our routes go past many local wineries. Email us for more information on the wineries we pass. Tefft Cellars has been our lunch stop since the first year. We hope to host the first break stop on day one at one of the early wineries along the route. We also offer a winery tour for riders upon arriving in Prosser. Piety Flats Winery (formerly Donald Fruit and Mercantile) has hosted our last break stop of day 2 since our first year. Meals and Break Stops The registration fee includes all break stops, dinner, breakfast, and a bbq at the finish line. We try to incorporate a variety of bicyclist friendly and local foods into our break stops. email us in advance of the ride if there is something you would like to suggest. In addition to being wine country, we are in a produce producing valley that has enough variety to make your head spin, so fruits and melons abound at our stops. The second stop of the second day is even hosted by a produce stand. What is the gourmet dinner? -- The Prosser Knights of Columbus
prepares this amazing dinner. We have previously called it a Prime Rib
dinner, but the Knights prepare so many options previous riders asked that we
explain that it includes much more. Last year, in addition to the Prime
Rib, the Knights prepared grilled salmon, chicken, shrimp, pasta, and rice
dishes plus sides and deserts. The dinner is also served with a variety of
local wines courtesy of our local wineries.
